With all of our information becoming more and more digitized, the necessity of backing up data becomes much more than a geekified activity for when you're bored. In fact it becomes downright necessary. Let's take a quick look at why.
I could harangue you with story after story about how important it is, but the simple fact is, until it happens to you, you lose a precious document or even a whole hard drive of stuff, you simply won't appreciate or really "get" what I am saying.
It's a bit like trying to convince people who don't know what hunger is, what it means to go without. At some point or other, you simply WILL lose all of your data, or at the least, something precious or important to you digitally.
Why am I telling you this? Because I almost lost THIS whole website people!! Thank-GOD I had done a backup, but a glitch occured and the entire site was out of commision for over an hour this morning (hopefully before any of you got up, shuffled to the computer with your coffee, and looked me up to see what wonderful new ideas I had to change your life!).
In any case, you can thank me, and the good folks at my hosting company that helped me perform the restoration, for doing due dilligence and backing up your data.
And DON'T rely on flash drives, Puh-LEASE! They could get dropped, kicked, sprayed with water, breathed on wrong, who knows! If you value your digital stuff, back it up on CDs or DVDs, and on at least 1 or 2 other devices as well.
Mark my words.
