Sci-Fi buffs will tell you that slowly, as time progresses, everything written about in those crazy stories is coming true. From Stargates to Materializers, our world is becoming inhabited by the creations of the wildest thinkers.
So perhaps it comes as no surprise that the very technology we are in love with has a dark side to it...Is it possible that artificial intelligence robots could replace your job?
While it may sound quite far-fetched, it's not as far, nor as fetched, as you might think. Just ask the Aloft Hotel how they like their new robot bellhop. This little guy will soon be taking over where the traditional bellhop leaves off.
While you may consider this contraption to be little more than a roomba on wheels, an oversized air conditioner with a limited function, think again.
Ever hear of Moore's Law or The Singularity? No? Better do a little Googling then, because the next wave in human r/evolution not only is coming, but it's already here. And don't tell me you don't know what the IoT is...or I'll really have to give you what for.
While some of you may prefer to laugh it off, the simple fact is we are laying on the tracks and a train, my friend, is coming. That train is technology such as you've never seen. Never imagined. And don't want.
Did you see the Terminator? Think it's nuts?
The truth is, robot workers are coming. And they will start at the bottom of the job market, replacing menial jobs like bellhops and information stations. Then they will steadily progress up the ladder until even middle-tier workers such as analysts, accountants, and mundane middle-of-the road jobs are replaced.
Why should a company pay a human being, who works such limited hours, requires so many benefits, so much overhead, and takes breaks and vacations, when a robot worker can work 24/7 without a break and doesn't complain?
Think it's all nuts? Are you paying attention? I see a light at the end of the tunnel. And the sound of an oncoming train.
